Henry David Thoreau, the authority on civil disobedience, once said, “If a plant cannot live according to its nature, it dies, and so does a man.” It’s completely true, and doesn’t simply stop there. It leads to the death of entire civilisations when citizens refuse to stand up for what they believe is important. Just look to the societies where people continue to resist even amongst the most despotic of regimes (think Palestine), and you’ll see a thriving, beautiful flower in the midst of a decaying warzone.
